Life is Messy

Too often we fall into the trap of striving for perfection. No one is perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. We have all done things we regret and wish we did differently. A truly remarkable individual is the person who has the humility to look into their own blindspots and act differently. Authentic dialogue and space to grow are essential ingredients for this to happen. A successful community is composed of people willing to learn, willing to forgive, and willing to grow. Family Service works tremendously hard to be a model of this behavior.

People always want to get to the destination. Folks think “when I get this, I will be happy; when I have this much money, I will be secure.” News flash, that's never going to happen. It’s not where or how you start but how you finish. The journey is just as important (if not more) as the destination.

Family Service believes all people are worthy of dignity, respect, and the ability to live out their potential. Life is messy and filled with mistakes and regrets. Family Service walks with clients through their mess and helps provide support for them to overcome struggles. Hoping clients will realize success is not from lack of failure but the ability to keep going despite failure.

Thomas Edison famously said, “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” When you view the journey as steps towards your goals, failure is part of the process, not the indicator of success.
