Amanda Gorman, recited this spoken word “The Hill We Climb” at the last presidential inauguration. Regardless of your politics, this poem beautifully captures the earnest striving in today's world despite our shortcomings. This future hope of a better community to live resonates within the souls of all people.

While we all fall short of perfection, this doesn’t stop our quest for purpose and growth. We need to humbly recognize our blindspots and not run, but rather face head on. With this grand vision, we can work to create this more “perfect union” where people are treated with respect and dignity.

This small excerpt sums up the heartbeat of what Family Service is trying to accomplish:

And, yes, we are far from polished, far from pristine, but that doesn’t mean we are striving to form a union that is perfect.

We are striving to forge our union with purpose.

To compose a country committed to all cultures, colors, characters and conditions of man.

And so we lift our gaze, not to what stands between us, but what stands before us.

We close the divide because we know to put our future first, we must first put our differences aside.

We lay down our arms so we can reach out our arms to one another.
